Your highnesses didn’t think it was a good idea to stop in the woods at night to rest the horses, but they feared without a break they would not survive the trip back to the castle.
The fears of the king and queen were spurned on by stories they heard told of a shadowy figure lurking in the woods, only ever seen silhouetted in the moonlight. A highwayman, hunting for treasure from folks who happen along his path.
Given they were carrying the crown jewels, they perhaps should have brought a garrison of men rather than just the one brave knight. Let’s hope the highwayman doesn’t find them.
