What was supposed to be a quick trip into the city, grab some breakfast and stop in at Melbourne Zoo on the way home for a quick trip turned into an all day adventure. But that’s what happens when you invite Kathryn along for the ride. I don’t know where she gets her energy, seriously.
But far from disappointed that my plans went astray, we had a great day and grabbed some photos along the way. There’s not much more to say, oh, other than, if you haven’t seen it, check out the new Baboon enclosure.
The Baboons have been at the Melbourne Zoo since 1948. I’m pretty sure since that time, until now, they have been kept in a long cyclone fenced concrete enclosure. It was horrible. The years would pass and other animals would receive upgrades while the poor Baboons remained on concrete, never getting to touch earth beneath their feet. Thankfully that has now changed. Guess they were waiting to move everyone else around first.
While I was so impressed, almost to joyful relief, I didn’t really take many photos of the Baboons or their new enclosure. The day was far too bright at the time and we never made our way back on this trip. But that’s the best thing about being a “Friends of the Zoo” member, we can go back again and again.
Because it’s changed so often I thought I’d include a recent map.
Chimping at my camera to check out the tiger shots.

Wow that’s a lot of photos. And there’s more in my Flickr Collection for Melbourne Zoo.
