Christmas Gifts

I couldn’t write about all the great things I got for Christmas until today cause I hadn’t spent my gift cards I received.

Planet EarthMy family thinks I’m difficult to buy for. So they get me gift vouchers which is fine by me.

This year, along with a couple of vouchers I received, I got the book for “Wicked: the life and times of the wicked witch of the west” and a USB mobile modem for my laptop and tickets to Phantom of the Opera.

I’m about halfway through the book and it’s a great read. Gregory Maguire makes some excellent points about how perception and the media machine can be used to produce the “wicked” that we know of.

The modem works great, I get 5GB of bandwidth per month and can use it anywhere that I receive a mobile signal. It has three levels of connectivity from GPRS (slow as) to 8MB/s HSDPA (will have to check that is right).

Our Phantom tickets are for Saturday the 12th, I saw the show about 13 years ago in Sydney and know it’s amazing so I am looking forward to seeing it again.

With the voucher from my Mum I’ve purchased a 77mm Polarizing filter for my camera, something I’ve wanted since buying my new lenses a couple of months back. Thanks Mum.

From my Sister’s voucher I purchased “The Bourne Ultimatum” to round out my Bourne collection and I also bought the Blu-ray edition of the BBC’s “Planet Earth as you have never seen it before” series. I’m watching it now and it is amazing to say the least. Unbelievable footage, it truly is the world as we have never seen it before and as we may never get the opportunity to see it in real life.

I LOVE this type of series. The time-lapse photography is beautiful. The representation of some unique creatures I’ve never seen before stuns me with their rarity and beauty. At 665 minutes long I’ve got plenty of watching to do. Thanks lil’ sister.

I’m off to watch some more.
